Dear Ms Thu Hien,
Thanks for your email. I will try to write a good answer.
We really liked Vietnam. Ho Chi Min is a nice city with houses well taken care of compared with China. The traffic is more load as all mopeds are using petrol. In China many are using batteries so it's not so noisy. The traffic behaviour is better in Ho Chi Min :-) Phu Quoc was a nice Island with nice people. We were impressed by the high quality of cars being used for taxi driving and such nice and polite taxi drivers. Same reflection in Ho Chi Min.
We were met at the airport when we arrived and our hotel in Ho Chi Min was good. My parents in law from Sweden arrived the following morning and we spent some days together. We joined Christmas eve at the hotel adn it was nice. Breakfast and Christmas eve had very good food and good service. We can recommend the hotel.
At Phu Quoc and our first hotel Thien Hai son Resort we had booked two rooms. Both were on the first floor just near the lobby. One was facing the pool, the other one the tennis court. Quite old rooms and bathrooms. I woke up at 5.40am the first morning as three cleaning ladies "had a meeting" just outside our room. 6.10am I went outside to ask them to be quiet - they looked at me strangely...Our bathroom had no fan so they installed one the second day. We had heard that sometimes the water and electricity supply could have problems so we did not complain about not having hot water in the bathroom until the second day. Just to be informed that there is no hot water in our room as there is no hot water heater installed!!! So, what to do? We were moved on the following day (day 3) to a room on the second floor facing the tennis court. There was no room available on second floor for our children so they stayed downstairs. Now my husband and I had a room with hot water and were awake at 6am every morning by people playing tennis instead of cleaning ladies having meetings. I don't know what's best? The tennis court was open 6am to 11pm!!! Could have been 7am/8am to 10pm.
Breakfast was good, their little restaurant at the beach was fantastic, the pool was clean, the beach was clean, nice water. I believe staying in a bungalow is a really good option at this hotel.
Then we moved for the last four days further south on the beach to Thanh kieu Beach resort. Nice place with good service and a good breakfast. One room with a fan and two beds with mosquito nets, just a simple hanger to hang clothes and things. A small refrigerator. We just unpacked exactly what we needed as there were no place to put the things. To flush the toilet we had to use a bucket as the flush did not work. It was very basic more like the places I stayed in when I was a backpacker in Asia back in 1990. Nice veranda, fantastic view over the beach and sea. A nice place, but a bit too small house for us as a family and a bit too simple regarding the bathroom/toilet area.
We did a lot of walking around the area and we are positively sure that the best place to stay at is Sea Star Resort at Phu Quoc.
We did a snorcling, island hopping trip. The food on the boat was fantastic, the diving was so so. Unfortunately the sea is not being taken care of so many of the corals are dead so it's very brownish at all four stops. After the boat trip we were driven to a beach on the east coast called Sao Bao Beach with white sand. We went into the water, but it was full of plastic bags and rubbish. Awful. I believe it's important for Vietnam to keep good care of the ocean and land to provide an good environment for animals and humans.
Then we flu back to Ho Chi Min and arrived at Green Saigon Hotel. They were not expecting us, but were very kind and called your agency to check everything up. The first impression was "What is this for sort of place". We arrived late afternoon and would leave next morning before 6am so what to do? They gave us two rooms. The children's room had a window covered by a curtain and behind it was a wall! Both rooms felt dusty and not clean. Sheets were very old and in our rubbish bin was a used pink condom. This place felt like one you rent per hour not per night if you get my meaning? The man from the lobby was really nice. As they could not offer breakfast that early he went out and bought breakfast for us the night before to keep in the refrigerator. In the morning they helped us to get a taxi and we left for the airport and flight back to China. I would never like to stay there again.
I hope this summary will help you. We are happy to have been in Vietnam and will be glad to go back some day.
With kind regards
Kristina Rosen
